6 STEPS FOR CHOOSING A COLOR SCHEME FOR THE INTERIOR
At first one can get confused among the abundance of shades in paint or wallpaper catalogs, which leads to fear of making the wrong choice, impulsive furniture shopping before choosing a wall finish. It is most harmless if a person chooses something neutral - beige, white or gray. And all of this is from uncertainty and not knowing how to combine colors.
The first thing we most often pay attention to when entering any room are the walls, which serve as a background for furniture and decor. Therefore, color is considered the most dynamic and impressive element in the design of the space. Above all, it is the color scheme that will determine the atmosphere and perception of the rooms in your home.

"If you, unknowing, are able to create masterpieces in color, then unknowledge is your way. But if you are unable to create masterpieces in color out of your unknowledge, then you ought to look for knowledge."
Johannes Itten. Encounter, 1916

ITTEN COLOR WHEEL
FIRST COLOR
The basis of the color theory (Johannes Itten) is the color circle. It begins with three primary colors: yellow, blue, and red.
If you evenly (50/50) mix the primary colors with each other, you get secondary colors: green, purple and orange, which are located in the second row of the color wheel.
Then, by mixing primary colors with secondary colors, we get tertiary colors: yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, red-violet, red-orange, yellow-orange.
SECOND COLOR
THREE COLOURS
The result is a complete circle, which serves as a good visual cue for designers and artists, but now it is important to explain the color-combination schemes using the circle.
COMBINATION SCHEMES
COMPLIMENTARY
Two contrasting colors.
Three equidistant colors, where one color can be taken as the main color, and the other two to set the accent.
Three nearby colors, where one can be chosen as the main, the second is a supporting, the third to set accents.
CONTRAST TRIAD
TRIAD
The colors are equidistant in the color wheel, every two colors are complementary.
ANALOG TRIAD
TETRADA
RECTANGULAR
The principle of color matching is similar to the complementary scheme, but instead of the opposite color are used its neighbors.
Four colors, every two of which are complimentary.
Designers often rely on this proportion:
60% of the area should be occupied by the main color. Usually this is the finish of the walls, floors, ceilings, and large pieces of furniture.
30% corresponds to the basic tone or neutral color. This could be one of the walls, curtains, chairs, sofas and other furniture.
10% for arranging accents in the form of posters, decorative pillows, hanging shelves, brightly colored plafonds and chandeliers. They require the acquisition of the interior of their own character, make the room special, and at the same time they are easy to update if necessary.

2 STEP
Soft, light colors and discreet small patterns are ideal for small rooms. They make it feel freer and more spacious without showing unnecessary noise, while favorably shading the brightness of accented interior elements and decor.

Bold, bright, saturated colors are suitable for large rooms, where you can play with the perception of dimensions and plans. Do not be afraid of dark and even black colors, with their help you can create cozy, chamber interiors.
CONSIDER DIMENSIONS
3 STEP
Evaluate the amount of natural light in the room during the day and the direction of the light. If the room has large windows and they face the sunny side, you can safely use cool light and dark colors. If there is not enough natural light in the room, then choose warm light colors with the addition of bright and juicy shades.
CONSIDER THE LIGHT
4 STEP
When choosing colors and their shades, you need to correlate with your preferences and tastes. They should not cause rejection and negative feelings.

You can look on the Internet or collect from your album on your phone the pictures and photos you like; or select works by interior designers, clothing designers or artists. Then select the best options and use special programs to instantly determine the palette of your chosen image. This palette can be used as the basis for choosing finishing materials.
TASTE & COLOR
5 STEP
A color type is a color characteristic of one's appearance that is made up of several parameters. Usually skin tone, natural hair color and eye color are taken into account.
COLOR TYPE
6 STEP
Winter - Light skin, dark hair. Brown or blue, blue eyes and scarlet lips. Bright brunettes.
Summer - Light skin, blue eyes. Blondes with pink lips.
Fall - Warm skin tones, green, brown or blue eyes, cream-colored lips.
Spring - Light skin of warm shades, freckles, blue-gray eyes, hair from light blond to soft ashy shades.
Next, a coloristic collage is created from photographs of nature, and depending on the color type, a color scheme or palette is compiled. This palette is then used in the selection of finishing materials, furniture, and decorations.
  • draw on color theory with Itten's circle and experiment with schemes;
  • use shade palettes generated with the help of online services and favorite pictures and photographs;
  • intelligently distribute the main and accent shades in the interior, using the simple formula 60/30/10;
  • take into account the size of the space and its natural light;
  • use colors that evoke a pleasant emotion in you;
  • rely on your natural color type.
